Change Your Mind program
How does the Change Your Mind program work?
Where do problems come from?
Over the years our minds become programmed to respond to certain situations in certain ways. For example, when we smell food, we know that it may be time to eat. Most of the time this is programming is extremely beneficial to us and, in fact, helps keep us alive as we learn to avoid dangerous situations.
When we do something, our brains physically construct neural pathways, which over time, when certain actions are repeated, become more worn, more familiar and more automatic and we instinctively know how to respond to external circumstances, very often without any conscious thought. Sometimes, however, the initial input might be a little faulty causing our brain to construct a road that can lead us down a deep hole.
For instance, if when you were little, your horrible little brother or sister threw a spider at you scaring the living daylights out of you, your brain registers spiders as a threat. The next time and the time after that, whenever you encounter a spider, you are scared, and the neural pathway in your brain is strengthened. It’s like going down a road with a big unavoidable pothole. You don’t want to go down it again, but with the right (or wrong) stimulus, in this case, the spider, the unconscious part of your mind pushes you down the same path, down the same deep hole despite all your good intentions and conscious knowledge that travelling this well-worn road is illogical. Unfortunately, conscious thought alone cannot help you avoid it. And it’s a very similar pattern for negative thinking, inappropriate reactions and destructive habits.
The easier you can make it inside your head, the easier it will make things outside your head.

How can Change Your Mind help?
I may use a variety of techniques according to your particular problem and speak directly to the part of your mind responsible for installing your unwanted behaviour. Clinical Hypnosis, for example, is a tremendously flexible and modern approach, constantly evolving to take advantage of new therapy techniques and developments in neuroscience. For example, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization for Resolution), a great technique for resolving unresolved trauma, as is TFT (Thought Field Therapy).
I may also use NLP (or Neuro Linguistic Programming), which deals with interplay between your mind (the Neuro), your language (the Linguistic) and how this affects your feelings, thoughts and behaviour (the Programming bit). Or I may use elements of CBT Coaching. All these techniques can help ‘undo’ your problem programming. As you usually ‘do’ your problem in a light trance state, I help you to use a similar state to ‘undo’ your it. Most clients find this a pleasant and relaxing experience. Rest assured you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to.
